We are delighted to be offering a part-time Band 8 Consultant Clinical Psychologist post within our Older Adult Inpatients Service at Hadrian Clinic, Campus for Ageing and Vitality, Newcastle upon Tyne. We are looking for Clinical Psychologist with significant expertise in working with older adults either in the community or in inpatient services.
The post will work into our two older adult wards.Castleside is our ward for people with organic problems including dementia; a 10 bedded ward providing assessment and treatment by a multi-disciplinary health and social care team. The ward supports service users and their families with a range of different treatments and therapies. Akenside is a 10 bedded ward for older people with mental health problems arising from functional disorders such as depression, anxiety or psychosis. Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team using a biopsychosocial model of understanding.
The role will be part of the multi-disciplinary team, with colleagues from Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry and Speech and Language Therapy. This post will focus on supporting specialist psychological assessment and formulation (including neuropsychological assessment and using the Newcastle Model), and interventions with service users, alongside interventions with families. The post will provide scaffolding to the inpatient teams and supervision to psychological services colleagues. The post will also support service evaluation and innovation.
The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary context undertaking specialised psychological assessments, treatments, and other types of clinical intervention appropriate to this level of training with individual clients/ groups of clients, and families. They will provide specialist supervision to MDT and psychological services staff.
The successful applicant will manage a caseload and be responsible for providing effective evidence-based care in line with national and local guidelines. They will support the service in the development and delivery of training and service development initiatives.

The post holder will be part of a supportive psychology team which provides Acute, Rehabilitation, and Older Adult inpatient services for Newcastle and Gateshead. The team is part of a valued trust wide psychological service which has a range of regular meetings and support activities to ensure professional governance and to promote evidence based and innovative psychologically informed care.
Working in inpatient services offers excellent opportunities to develop a range of skills. These include skills in both direct clinical work, as well as clinical leadership, service development, staff support, and training. The post involves providing specialist psychological assessment and formulation including neuropsychological assessment and using the Newcastle Model with service users and teams. The post holder will lead on the development of collaborative psychological formulations and deliver specialist psychological interventions with service users and families, working as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will provide specialist support to the multidisciplinary team working with service users through supervision, scaffolding and team formulation. The post holder will lead on complex risk assessment and care planning, provision of reflective practice sessions and delivery of specialist training for multidisciplinary colleagues on a range of psychological models and interventions.
The post holder will lead on the development and undertaking of service evaluation and innovation, enhancing the quality of care. We are looking for applicants who are highly skilled in working as part of a team, and independently, with an expert level of research and report writing skills. The post holder will be supported to continue to develop their skills in the required areas of work and provided with appropriate supervision.
