Senior Pharmacy Technician

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, proactive and driven Senior Pharmacy Technician in the Leeds Medicines Optimisation Team. We are looking for a pharmacy technician with excellent communication skills who can work well as part of a team and competently manage their own workload. You should have a solid understanding of medicines optimisation and be able to apply your pharmacy technician experience and expertise to a range of diverse Medicines Optimisation projects and initiatives across the Leeds Health and Care Partnership.

The post holder will work in the Leeds based Medicines Optimisation Team who are one of five place-based Medicines Optimisation Teams working within the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (WYICB). The Leeds team are based out of White Rose Office Park in Beeston, Leeds but adopt a hybrid working style comprising of a mix of home working and office-based working. Main duties of the job

The postholder will work within the Population Health Planning arm of the team which has a particular focus on providing pharmacy expertise to pathways and programmes of work that aim to improve health outcomes for people and reduce unplanned use of health and care services in line with the Healthy Leeds Plan. Within this context, the postholder will extract, analyse and interpret medicines and prescribing data to support these programmes of work and to reduce unwarranted variation in the way medicines are accessed, prescribed and used within the Leeds Health Economy. Doing so will require the postholder to communicate across disciplines and organisational boundaries, build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of healthcare professionals including GPs, Primary Care Network pharmacy teams and other key stakeholders.

Job responsibilities

Provide pharmacy technician support and expertise to a range of diverse Medicines Optimisation projects and initiatives. This involves supporting a broad range of medicines related activities, including planning and co-ordinating, providing education and training within area of competence and gaining assurance of the safe, legal and financially sustainable use of medicines within the Leeds Office of the Integrated Care Board (LOICB) and across the West Yorkshire Integrated Care System.

Provide advice and guidance to partner organisations e.g., GP practices, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations on appropriate systems and processes relating to medicines optimisation and work with the teams to embed and promote the safe and effective use of medicines and pathways.

Support the implementation of national, regional, and local prescribing policies, schemes, services and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings to support red
