We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic colleague to join our well integrated Specialist Community Dental Service team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust to support our advisory and treatment services in Paediatric Dentistry.There is exciting opportunity to be actively involved in the future of the Paediatric Dentistry at CDDFT and significantly contributing to the strategic and operational planning of the Service.
Candidates for the post must be registered dental practitioners, have an interest, and hold a postgraduate qualification in Conscious Sedation. The successful candidate will be on the GDCs specialist list in Paediatric Dentistry and will have completed an SAC approved two year minimum post CCST training programme in Paediatric Dentistry and successful at ISFE (or equivalent). Evidence of experience and teaching of Specialty trainees would be beneficial. In addition to the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit.
The post holder will be expected to work from multiple sites within the county and provide high quality oral health care for children with developmental, medical and special needs who fall within the remit of the County Durham & Darlington Specialist Community Dental Services team. The post will involve the administration of treatment under Day Case GA and Sedation as appropriate. The post holder will work closely with Consultants in Paediatric Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry and as part of local multidisciplinary networks to develop patient pathways.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

The post holder will be responsible for the professional and educational supervision of junior staff and nursing staff within the service.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the postgraduate teaching of dental staff and specialty trainees, dental core trainees attached to the Trust and in the training of all grades of staff.
Research activities, which are considered to be an inherent part of normal clinical duties, will be encouraged and limited research funding, may be available following successful applications to the local Research and Development Committee.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) the post holder is responsible for ensuring that he/she meets the GDC requirements for CPD, both internal and external. He/she will be expected to attend regularly and contribute to the MCN session held regionally.
The post holder will be expected to participate in clinical governance including audit arrangements in line with national and local guidelines and in respect of Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Trust in accordance with current best practice.
