EIP works with people between the ages of 14 - 65 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

This is an opportunity to be a part of a very supportive team, where your contribution and development are highly valued. The successful applicants will work exclusively with individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis across Gateshead.

You will be able to work autonomously and will be willing and able to develop your skills and knowledge for this specialist role. You will be involved in completing holistic assessments and delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to people on your caseload.

Care coordination is part of your role, however in EIP we aim to keep caseloads to a manageable level to enable our clinicians to focus on quality interventions and increased clinical contact, with an emphasis on recovery. The service is committed to developing the skills of practitioners, so there will be ongoing opportunities to develop further clinical skills and participate in research.

Main duties of the job

Working in the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) team is an excellent opportunity for Community Practitioners to offer care and support on a recovery focused journey for people aged 14-65 years who are experiencing their first psychotic experience.

Our team works closely with the service users and their families over a 3 year period, during this time we offer a range of therapeutic inventions to support their recovery and mental health needs.

Opportunities for practitioners to develop or build on existing skills.

Practitioners will work with service users in overcoming any difficulties that they might have, help develop understanding about symptoms, support the development of new ways of coping and aid daily living skills.

Caseloads aim to be capped at 15.

To be responsible for the Assessment and Management of service users who have substantial and complex needs.

To deliver evidenced based Clinical and Psychologically based Interventions.

Participation in duty rota and triaging new referrals.

To support health promotion of service users.

Promote a culture of learning, education and professional development - the team often has student nurses/social workers on placement.

Adhere to the principles of safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults in line with Trust Policy and local reporting procedure.

To undertake and record comprehensive risk assessments, devise and implement risk management plans for clients , using the Biopsychosocial Risk Assessment Tool.

The post holder will work as a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team ensuring that high quality individualised care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximising independence. The team consists of a lead Consultant Psychiatrist, Team Manager, Clinical Lead, Community Practitioners, Psychology Team, Family Therapist, Support Time Recovery Workers and IPS workers. The successful candidate will work along side all members of the team to ensure a holistic, recovery focus is maintained throughout the service user pathway.
