Job summary

Barnsley Hospital is delighted to be inviting applications for a Consultant Anaesthetist to join our team. Different specialty interests can be supported, depending on the individuals area of expertise. This post is to support expansion of the anaesthetic services with Barnsley and to meet activity and service specification demands and includes the flexibility to spend a significant amount of time within the job plan to allow for engagement within a specialist area of your choice with particular reference to Obstetric anaesthesia, Trauma and Orthopaedic anaesthesia and Perioperative medicine.

The post will appeal to a clinician who is looking to join a forward-thinking, motivated and friendly department. Team working is an essential attribute.

This post will suit an appropriately trained clinician with CCT (or equivalent) in anaesthesia who values team work, quality of life and work life balance, forward thinking dynamic attitudes to patient care, and respect and compassion to all staff members, patients and their families.

Those interested in education will be supported fully to explore internal and external roles such as college tutor/TPD/Head of School/Director of Medical Education, FRCA/FICM examinerships, management roles or any other opportunities for self-development. Main duties of the job

The detailed job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate on appointment. The successful applicant will be contracted to 10 PA s per week on average. It is anticipated that the split of programmed activities will be 8.5 direct clinical care and 1.5 supporting professional activities to ensure GMC revalidation.Additional PAs can be negotiated and agreed with the Divisional Director and Clinical Lead to reflect additional management and professional responsibilities but the successful candidate will not be expected to commit to working more than 10 Programmed Activities on average per week.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Satisfactory completion of training as required by the Royal College of Anaesthetists as assessed by the College assessor.
Suitable experience in all areas of clinical practice required for the post.
Additional training/experience in the area of subspecialty experience.

Desirable

Knowledge and understanding of the statutory and regulatory environment within which the medical services operate within the NHS.
A relevant PGCert or higher, or in progress.
Evidence of commitment to education and training.
Evidence of commitment to the chosen subspecialty interest.
Evidence of higher training and qualifications in the chosen subspecialty interest.

Qualifications

Essential

FRCA or equivalent with CCT in Anaesthetics at the time of commencing the post.
Registered with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register (within 6 months of interview)

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

Clinical competence and appropriate training in the range of clinical practice required of the post.
Be able to effectively supervise trainees with their clinical practice within the anaesthetic department.
