Paediatric Audiologist

Job summary

The Childrens Hearing Service covers the population of West Hertfordshire providing a full range of diagnostic and rehabilitation services to children and young people. You will be working with Lead Paediatric Audiologist/Service Lead, Consultant in Paediatric Audio-vestibular Medicine (AVM), Paediatric Audiologists, Audiology Assistants and administration staff. On a wider level you will work with ENT, Educational audiologists, Speech Therapy. This is an extremely supportive team and provide a fantastic environment to grow your paediatric audiology knowledge and skills. This role requires traveling to multiple locations.

Main duties of the job

This role requires diagnostic assessments using a range of testing techniques and rehabilitation of children with auditory disorders; some of which are complex and will be accompanied with a senior clinician as well as digital hearing aid provision. The role also involves general departmental administrative duties and service development and may require some teaching & training of junior staff and allied professionals, if appropriate. You will be expected to have high professional standards, be adaptive to change and work independently as well as jointly with other audiologists and Consultant AVM.

Job description

Job responsibilities

• To undertake the full range of diagnostic, technical, and (re)habilitative audiological procedures for children, including history taking, otoscopy, pure tone audiometry, VRA, performance audiometry, tympanometry, speech testing, and otoacoustic emissions testing as required, following BSA and departmental standards.
• To offer comprehensive management through counselling patients and their parents/carers regarding the nature and extent of any hearing loss, discussing management options, and supporting informed decision-making.
• To provide guidance and advice to relatives and carers on hearing and hearing-related matters to ensure effective communication strategies and support at home or in educational settings.
• To provide written evaluations of test results in line with BSA standards and departmental protocols within set timeframes and recommending or arranging further investigations where necessary.
• To assist senior clinical audiologists by taking ear mould impressions, processing hearing aid repairs, and supporting hearing aid fittings and review appointments for babies and younger children.
• To ensure all clinical areas are clean and tidy, equipment is calibrated daily and within expiry, and stock is managed appropriately, taking corrective action or escalating to the medical devices lead when required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• BSc Audiology
• RCCP and/or HCPC registration
• MSc in Audiology with competency certificate
• Demonstrable post graduate clinical experience in balance assessment and general audiology
• Willingness to travel to multiple locations
