An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive renal team based at York Hospital. You will be joining a forward thinking department of over 30 Dietitians which is valued and respected by the renal multidisciplinary team as well as throughout the Trust.

You will mainly be working within York Hospital, however there will also be the opportunity to work cross-site, including at Scarborough Hospital and renal units at Harrogate, Easingwold and Selby.The ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during the course of a normal working day is required for this vacancy.

The department places a strong emphasis on clinical and peer support and clinical supervision, and has a well-established programme facilitating the training of Dietetic students on the three clinical placements included within their training. We are also involved in delivering a variety of rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust, relating to nutritional care.

Main duties of the job

We will support you to develop skills across inpatients and outpatients including clinics and group education. If you are a Dietitian in your first year of practice, we have a Preceptorship programme to help support development of your skills and confidence as an autonomous practitioner.

You will have the opportunity to work with experienced Dietitians and the Advanced Clinical Specialist Dietitian for renal as well as within the renal multi-professional team. You will also work alongside other Band 5 Dietitians, Dietetic Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners, to provide inpatient services across other areas, including General Medicine, Stroke, Gastroenterology, Care of the Elderly and Cancer.

Within the acute setting, in addition to oral nutrition support, you will be able to develop clinical skills working with patients requiring enteral tube feeding and parenteral nutrition. Outpatient clinic work will include interventions for the management of those with reduced kidney function (General Nephrology) and those with urological conditions. Experience with nutritional screening and assessment will be gained including anthropometry measurements. There is great opportunity to be involved and develop group education sessions for our renal patients.

The successful candidate will be involved in these important aspects of supporting the learning and development of others.

This is a wonderful opportunity to welcome you into your new teams and our Trust, providing you with support and guidance as you develop in confidence and competence whilst transitioning from student to autonomous professional.

Preceptorship lasts 12 months and you will be assigned a preceptee who will support coach, mentor and guide you through regular meetings, along side a programme of structured learning.
