Senior Clinical Fellow in General Surgery (ST3+ equivalent) - General Surgery, Upper GI

The General Surgery department at St Georges University Hospital Foundation NHS Trust wishes to appoint a Trust Grade doctor at the level of ST3+ (NHS experience at registrar level) to complete and enhance its team of junior doctors.

This is a replacement post, giving the post-holder the opportunity to participate in the General Surgery on-call rota as a 1:13 daytime and night-time on call.

Main duties of the job

This is a clinical post (ST3+ level) where the appointee will join the general surgery firm and remain there for the duration of their contract.

The post would provide an ideal professional development platform from which the appointee may develop a portfolio of experience. The post intended is not part of a training program. If the appointee has a particular interest in research or education, then this can be facilitated as part of the post.

Job responsibilities

There will be participation in the elective activity of the firm and emergency activity of the department.

The appointee will be attending elective theatres according to the weekly allocation of junior staff and educational needs.

There is an expectation of providing clinics (general and specialised) on weekly basis according to allocations.

Participation, preparation and presentation in MDTs is expected and necessary for professional development.

There are many opportunities for quality improvement projects, research participation and teaching due to the close relation of the department with SGU Medical school.
