Job summary

Working as a Ward Sister/Charge Nurse entails great leadership, encompassing communication, collaborative working, innovating ways of working, and providing staff and patient safety at all times.

This post entails providing day to day leadership to the Nursing team within the ward, acting as a role model at all times whilst ensuring patients are receiving high quality evidence-based care.

You will adopt a highly visible and accessible approach for patients, their carers and relatives, and all staff within the MDT alike. They will lead by example and help to empower staff in their personal and professional development.

There is an expectation to work closely with the medical team and other agencies, to ensure patient care is given safely, promptly and appropriately, encouraging proactive discharge planning, and promoting maximum independence for patients.

**Post is for 34 hours per week**

Main duties of the job

To work as part of a team demonstrating effective communication, and working collaboratively with colleagues inside and out of the department. To provide a service that is tailored to meet the needs of the individual and to understand what our patients need and be adaptable and responsive. Support and develop Junior Staff Lead Board/MDT rounds (SAFER) Role model and lead the way to excellent care

About us

We are looking for a passionate and committed Band 6 ward sister who has an interest in Elderly care or is interested in gaining a broad knowledge around this fantastic area of nursing.

Simpson is a 28 bedded healthcare of the elderly ward and receives a broad range of acute medical conditions. Working alongside the MDT you will get a chance to help change patients lives.

You will work as a Registered Nurse within a multidisciplinary team. To promote and maintain a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carers, visitors and staff.

To comply with the Trust's values and expected behaviours anddeliver a high standard of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

To ensure care, assessments, treatment and documentation is delivered in line with Guidelines and to act as an advocate for patients, their families and staff.

Job responsibilities

• To provide a high quality service which complies with relevant legislation and NHS Employment check standards.
• To be honest and learn from mistakes, and help to create a no-blame culture were people feel able to share and learn from experiences together.
• Support and develop junior staff, act as a role model and lead the way to excellent care.
• Lead Board/MDT rounds (SAFER), delegate explicit roles and responsibilities.
• Keep up to date with Organisational developments, service delivery, clinical and administratively.
• Adhere to the NMC code, Trust protocols, procedures,Job description and Contract.
• Have an awareness of Budget and expenditure, not wasteful of resources.
• Be competent at using and supervising a wide range of specialised Equipment and confident with training.
• Support Staff in reflection, and critical thinking/learning.
• Work alongside the ward manager to develop your own knowledge and skills.
• Follow NMC Documentation guidance, alongside TSDHCFT Policies, and stay up to date with the Trusts Innovative IT systems.

Qualifications and training

Essential

• Current NMC registration
• Minimum 2 years at Band 5
• Evidence of personal development
• Experience of team leadership

Desirable

• Nursing degree
• Leadership qualification

Experience

Essential

• Understanding of SAFER process, ability to think/plan ahead
• Experience of Trust computer systems and electronic assessments
• Mandatory training up to date

Desirable

• Extended skills, venepuncture and cannulation
• Male and female catheterisation
• NG insertion and care.
• Knowledge of PEG care
